Barbara is an Associate at Kowhai Consulting and has been operating as a consultant since 2005. Barbara has extensive expertise in social and community development, policy, and research. She is practiced in community engagement, community building, and team development. She has a strong track record in facilitating cross-sectoral relationships and partnerships to develop tailored strategies and practical action plans that consider all stakeholders and achieve results.
Barbara brings a wide sphere of knowledge and networks, having held senior management roles in central and local government and the community sector, and over the past decade through her consultancy and advisory work. Examples of this include four years as Strategic Broker for Collaboration Bay of Plenty, a regional network of local government chief executives and central government regional managers focussed on collaborative practice; funding, project and advisory work to the Ōpōtiki District Council in support of collaborative effort to enable new industry and jobs through the Ōpōtiki Harbour redevelopment; Workforce Planning Project leadership for Toi EDA; and a wide variety of training, project management and mentoring roles. She has also contracted to Inspiring Communities, a national community organisation, undertaking both national and regional roles to support community-led development around complex issues. Through KHA Barbara has made contributions to the establishment of Healthy Families Rotorua, and undertaken MSD Capability Development mentoring with local, regional and national organisations; along with providing support for strategic planning and more collaborative practice with and among a range of organisations.
